Dental Implants the Solution
Many people over the age of 45 particularly women are turning to dental implants as the permanent solution to missing teeth or instead of wearing conventional dentures. Many people in this age range have previously had NHS dental treatment in the past and are now in a position where their teeth are starting to be a major concern. Some may have lost just a single tooth, others may have lost several teeth. More often than not this is due to gum disease or an accident of some kind in earlier years. Sometimes it can be a previously crowned tooth that is no longer viable. The thought of wearing a conventional denture seems somewhat horrendous?
Others have been wearing conventional dentures and have been suffering ever since with loose dentures or rubbing dentures, sometimes these dentures cover the entire roof of the mouth and you find that it is no longer a pleasure eating the food you like and you cannot taste the food as well as in the past. Often this impacts on peoples social lives, they dont like eating out in public, they often hold their hand over their mouth. Well the Good News ! is that there is a solution to those problems and you do not need to suffer any longer. Our new consumer guide is now available and reveals the solutions to ill-fitting, irritating dentures that pop-up, gag you, fly out or get stuck when you are eating and the solution to missing teeth..
Women and Men with new dental implants report being able to chew their food again and taste it ! They also have improved personal relationships and end the embarrassment of their ill fitting dentures or missing teeth.
Replace Missing Teeth with Dental Implants
The often unknown fact that everyone should be made aware of is that when you loose teeth the bone actually shrinks and over time if the bone is not stimulated it shrinks at a faster rate. If you wear a conventional denture not only is the biting force reduced but the jaw bone is not being stimulated and so it can shrink at a faster rate. That in itself is something that many denture wearers have no idea about
As well as improving your smile and confidence there are many other benefits to dental implant based solutions. For example you can return to eating the foods that you like, when and where you like, you can taste your food as well as being able to chew it normally. As chewing is the first part of the digestive process, you will not only improve your diet and nutrition but also your digestion.
Other related benefits include the stimulation of the jaw bone, keeping the same biting forces, lower cholesterol levels due to not having to eat only processed soft foods.
Improved self esteem, personal relationships, a new lease of life, thats how some people describe implant solutions.

Invisible braces and orthodontics for adults and teenagers
More and more people now want a perfect brilliant smile, not just teenagers but adults too. More often Adults are trying to get their smile as perfect as possible. In a recent survey, it was found that one out of four people having orthodontic treatment is over 18 years old. Orthodontic treatment isn't just for teenagers, because it can benefit people of any age.
The process by which teeth are straightened is generally the same in both children and adults. There is a fair variety in adult orthodontic treatment. This includes front teeth that protrude, crooked teeth and gaps, or crowding of the mouth.
Invisible Braces are the latest thing and easy to maintain even with a busy adult schedule. You can still do all the things you love, like singing, dining out, kissing, or playing an instrument. Yes that’s correct in many cases no one would know that you were wearing braces. Invisible aligners such as Invisalign and Clearstep and lingual braces, Stb social 6 braces are all placed so that they are not visible. Some treatments can be a short as 3 months. Dental health is now of paramount importance to most people, bad bites and crooked teeth make it hard for you to clean your teeth properly which can lead to gum problems and decay.
Once your teeth are straightened, you will be able to maintain proper oral hygiene and avoid oral health concerns. People of any age will benefit. There's no age limit to the procedure.
Treatment times vary but could be for as little as two months up to two years. A beautiful smile is often cited as a major factor in attractiveness, and everyone wants the confidence that comes with a great smile.
It's better to treat teeth alignment problems before the growth of the jaw has slowed. It is now recommended that each child should be screened for orthodontic care by the time they are 7.
Now, more than ever, Dentists and patients alike are realizing the benefits of havind straight teeth for exceptional oral health. Some of the youngest patients still have several years before they become teenagers, and more adults have decided to get braces.
There is also a field called Orthotropics researching how the jaws, teeth, and face are related in children. This field will allow clinicians to assess a child's dental health and to see if a treatment that begins in an early stage will be beneficial for the patient. The early start can utilise the periods of growth of the facial structures.
Invisible Braces gradually change the way a person looks, but they change more than that! The main reason one should consider orthodontic treatment is the beautiful smile it offers. But a great smile is more than just pleasing to the eye, it will make you feel better all over!
Amazing advances in clear cosmetic braces – superfast treatment times… typically 3 to 6 short months. Once you start looking at your choices of treatments you will be surprised what is available. Warning for Denture Wearers worldwide
Millions of people wearing dentures wordwide are being warned that a popular brand of denture adhesive could if used in excess over a long term trigger symptoms such as numbness, tingling or weakness in the arms and legs, difficulties with balance and walking, also blood problems such as anaemia. Long term excessive use of denture adhesives that contain zinc could produce a build up of zinc in the body which has been linked with neurological problems. GlaxoSmithKline who produce Polygrip announced on the 18th Feb 2010 that it was removing zinc from its denture adhesives in respose to health fears. They also stated that consumers using more adhesive than directed on the packaging over a number of years, should seek medical advice. A 40gram tube should last about six weeks, but some people apply it more frequently because of ill fitting dentures. Zinc is not absorbed in the mouth but enters the body when swallowed.GSK said its own reports on the products and other scientific research suggested that excessive use of the denture adhesive could cause problems. The company said it had received an increased number of adverse event reports last year, in which people reported side effects associated with the adhesives.
Dr Howard Marsh, Chief Medical officer for GSK Consumer Healthcare said "It is important for consumers to know that Poligrip Ultra and Poligrip Total Care remain safe to use as directed on the product label. " We are taking this voluntary action because we have become aware of potential health problems associated with the long term excessive use of our zinc containing denture adhesive products" "These reports are very rare, given that several million people wordwide are users of the products" "If anyone is concerned that they may have been using the product in excess they should stop using it, talk to their doctor and switch to a zinc-free alternative" GSK is reformulating its denture adhesives to be zinc-free and this will be clearly labelled on its packaging.
If your dentures are very old, loose and ill fitting, and you are using a lot of denture adhesive then you should have your denture checked immediately. Call My Brilliant Smile Dental Centre in East Grinstead on 01342 325522 and we can check your denture for you.

Best Dentist In East Grinstead
When we speak to new clients at My Brilliant Smile Dental, we ask them "how did you find us, or hear about us?" Today on the telephone, a new client told me that two people had told her to call us, as we were the best practice and best dentist in east grinstead. Obviously thats great to hear and word of mouth referrals are often the best way to hear about something. Many people are very surprised when they first visit us, as we dont have a traditional dental surgery layout. This was a decision made by myself when setting the Centre up, as i have approached it from the clients perspective. We dont have any stairs to climb, we are all on one level, we have our own private car park and you can park right outside the door. If you would like to discover what can be done for your smile, why not pop in for a chat. Do you prefer tea or coffee? please do let us know how we can help you. Tel 01342 325522

Invisible Braces and crooked, rotated, instanding or protruding teeth.
Many adults are now looking at ways to improve their crooked teeth or spaces between their teeth. Perhaps in the past these would have been corrected by cosmetic veneers or crown and bridgework. It is also not uncommon for us to see people with spaces between the premolars where in the past teeth have been extracted and this has resulted in the dental arch and bite not developing properly.
Firstly lets look at the ways that teeth can be corrected if they are crooked, instanding or protruding or twisted, without crowning or veneering them. You might think that a crown or veneer would be the best option, but that would involve doing something to an otherwise healthy tooth. A better option might be to correct the tooth itself by gently moving it. The movement of teeth is called orthodontics which is a very broad term.
There are ways a tooth can be moved or rotated and even the angulation corrected. In the past this would have been done with fixed orthodontic brackets and elastics, we all have this image in our minds of an american teenager with a mouth full of braces. The way this movement happens is by artificially applying pressure to the tooth in question. each tooth sits in a socket in the jaw bone, if pressure is applied to the tooth the socket remodels itself allowing the tooth position to change. Those basic principles are how all teeth can be moved orthodonticaly.
To apply that pressure the latest technology utilises invisible orthodontics. This can be in the form of clear aligners or invisible braces produced by companies like Invisalign and Clearstep or invisible braces which can be bonded behind the teeth so that they are not noticeable. This technique is called Social6 or Stb Braces, we even have Damon Braces which are half clear. In most cases there are now several invisible options and your clinician should outline the pros and cons of each option to you. In some cases the treatment time frame might be more important than the invisibilty aspect so there are many things to consider. What you should perhaps be aware of is that not all clinicians offer all the options. If you can find someone that does offer all the options, then you have a much better chance of getting exactly whats best for you.
In addition to rotated and crooked teeth, some peoples teeth do not bite together properly as they do not align. Again this can be often corrected invisibly by an ALF which is a very small light wire which runs around the back of the teeth and gently over time expands the dental arch. Sometimes a combination of these treatments are required.
Finally lets talk a little about those spaces where teeth have been removed as a child or teenager. Those spaces can be closed by using orthodontic implants which allow the back teeth to be pulled forward to close the spaces. In order to assess the treatment thats correct for you a clinician would normally take some impressions and an OPG radiograph. That radiograph is taken when you stand in the machine and it rotates from ear to ear, providing a panoramic digital image of all the teeth and substrustures. Once all that has been done and reviewed, your clinician can discuss all the options with you.
So as you can see this is quite a complex field and here at My Brilliant Smile Dental we are very fortunate to be able to offer all of the above treatments inhouse. We also provide free consultations so that you can come in for an initial discussion and meet the team. To book a free consultation please call 01342 325522
